YMCA
Child Care Programs
Young
Parent Programs | Birth to 2.5 years (Download Brochure [PDF])
Our Young Parent Programs provide high quality
child care to the children of student parents.
Our program enables students to continue their
secondary education while giving them peace
of mind knowing that their child is cared for
by trained professionals in a loving, stimulating
environment which is conducive to development.
A network of organizations work together to
provide support to student parents. Staff ratio
is 1 staff to 3 infants (up to 18 months) and
1 staff to 5 toddlers (18 months to 2.5 years)
Infant Care | Birth to
18 months
Our infant programs place importance on providing
for the infant’s individual needs in a
secure, loving and stimulating environment.
Social, emotional and physical development is
fostered through active exploration, sensory,
and musical experiences. Our infants enjoy outdoor
experiences through outdoor play and/or community
walks. Staff ratio is 1 staff to 3 infants.
Toddler Care | 18 months
to 2.5 years
Our toddler programs encourage children to actively
explore their environment with a hands-on approach
that stimulates natural learning. The continual
enhancement of social, emotional and physical
development is a major focus. Toddlers enjoy
outdoor play experiences in the morning and
afternoon daily. Staff ratio is 1 staff to 5
toddlers.
Preschool Care | 2.5
to 5 years
Our preschool programs provide opportunities
for children to make choices based on their
natural desire to learn new things and become
more self-reliant. Emphasis is also placed on
learning to get along with others. Through Animated
Literacy, our preschoolers are learning phonetic
awareness or “FUN-ee-mic” awareness
through songs, stories and actions, stimulating
their interest in the properties of language.
Preschoolers participate in outdoor play experiences
in the morning and afternoon each day. Staff
ratio is 1 staff to 8 preschoolers.
Kindergarten Care | 3.8
to 5 years
Our kindergarten programs provide opportunities
for children to experience all areas of development.
Staff create an environment that will support
and foster school readiness and success! Staff
ratio is 1 to 10 kindergarten children or better.
School Age | 3.8 to 12
years
Our before and after school programs are designed
to foster creativity, self expression and a
sense of belonging in all of our participants.
Through the development of a club atmosphere,
our school age participants are involved in
a variety of different activities that match
the group’s interests. We know that building
self-esteem and experiencing success is important
to children in this age group. Staff ratio is
1 staff to 15 school agers. Full day school
age programs and camps are available during
school holidays and PA days.
