The YHAS project will support development of an action plan for each school. The action plan will serve as a foundation for future planning and for development of the many supports needed to build healthy active school environments and communities.

Steps in the process include:

  1. Invite general feedback regarding how to make the school community healthier and more active. Some schools will choose to survey parents, others may establish a parent focus group, and many schools will rely on teacher, administration, and student input.
  2. Brainstorm and select school-specific Action Plan initiatives and determine how to move forward in the community.
  3. Develop Action Plan.
  4. Review Action Plan and select pilot project.
  5. Implement pilot project, review, and suggest modifications to Action Plan.
  6. Finalize Action Plan, including future phases and initiatives.

Thanks to the Simcoe County District School Board and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board for their support of the YMCA Healthy Active Schools initiative. Thanks to all community partners who are working together with the YHAS schools to increase health and activity levels in our communities.
