Join the global movement to end poverty

Stand Up Speak Out with the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and millions of others around the world…

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka believes in the importance of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.  In order to achieve this on a global scale we must all do what we can in the fight to Eradicate Poverty, it is for this reason that we would like to invite all members of the community to join us for our 3rd annual Stand Up event taking place at each of our YMCA Membership Centres at 12:00pm on October 16, 2009, as we Stand Up and pledge to take action and demand that our government keeps its promise to achieve the Millennium Goals to end extreme poverty by 2015. The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has made a commitment to contribute .7% of our annual budget to International programs, education and aid – we would like to see our government uphold their same commitment in accordance with the Millennium goals set out in 2000.

In 2006, 23 million people stood up, in 2007 47 million people, last year 116 million people Stood Up and Took Action.

What can we accomplish in 2009?
