Facilities Manager
Location: Camp George (45 Good Fellowship Rd, Seguin, ON P2A 0B2, Canada)

Salary Range: CAD 72,000 – 76,000 plus competitive benefits package including year-round, onsite housing including all utilities, and use of Camp vehicle for daily tasks.
The Role
The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Camp George seeks a hands-on, full-time, year-round, live-in on-site Facilities Manager to care for and maintain the camp’s 240+ acre facility on Maple Lake in the Township of Seguin, just 20 kilometers southeast of Parry Sound, ON. The Facilities Manager plays a hands-on, critical role in ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that fosters a sense of belonging within the URJ and camp community. This position involves year-round oversight of the camp’s facilities, managing seasonal maintenance staff, and coordinating with external vendors.
What You Will Do
Reporting directly to the Camp Director, the Facilities Manager is responsible for the following:
- Planning & Budgeting: Develop and implement short- and long-term facility improvement plans that align with operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and the camp’s goals. Manage the budget, ensuring financial accountability for bids, purchases, and inventory. Promote sustainability by adopting best practices that minimize environmental impact across all operations.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, vendors, and municipal authorities to ensure smooth collaboration on facility projects and operations. Oversee the timely processing of invoices related to maintenance, housekeeping, and food service, in collaboration with the Camp’s Business Manager.
- Safety & Compliance: Prioritize safety and adhere to URJ policies, as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including safety, building codes, and camping standards. Address safety, security, and health hazards promptly, and manage emergency situations to minimize disruption.
- Facility Oversight: Manage all aspects of facility operations to align with camp objectives. Maintain accurate records of structures, equipment, supplies, and preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Oversee the camp’s water treatment, sewage, and waste management systems. Prepare the camp for summer sessions and year-round events, ensuring the facilities are ready and well-maintained.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Support preventative maintenance and repairs across the camp’s buildings, grounds, and equipment. Perform non-permit-required mechanical maintenance and repairs to the physical plant, including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, masonry, heating, painting, plastering, electronics, kitchen facilities, toilets, air conditioning systems. etc. As needed work with vendors for maintenance and repairs. Manage seasonal tasks such as water drainage, snow removal, and preparation for rental groups. Perform general janitorial, housekeeping, and maintenance duties as directed by the supervisor. Support recovery efforts from Dining Hall fire.
- Staff Management: Supervise and train seasonal facility staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Stay current with training to ensure staff are equipped to follow safety guidelines.

Maintenance Skills: Ability to perform non-permit-required maintenance and repairs in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general facility maintenance, including troubleshooting, repair, and upkeep of various systems. In-depth understanding of safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements, with the ability to ensure compliance across all camp operations. Ability to respond to facility-related emergencies promptly, efficiently, and effectively, minimizing disruption and maintaining safety.
Project Management & Vendor Relations: Ability to plan, implement, and oversee facility projects from start to finish, ensuring that goals are met on time and within budget. Experience in negotiating and managing relationships with contractors, vendors, and external partners to ensure smooth operations and cost-effectiveness.
Self-Management & Accountability: Strong ability to assess priorities and manage time effectively to meet goals while ensuring personal well-being. Skill in articulating needs and challenges clearly to foster a transparent and collaborative environment. Commitment to maintaining respectful communication and timely responses to colleagues and stakeholders.
Collaborative Teamwork: Ability to work with diverse teams to achieve shared goals, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities. Skill in managing time and resources to meet commitments on schedule and within budget while addressing challenges respectfully. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical tasks related to facility upkeep, including repairs, maintenance, and inspections. Ability to lift 75 lbs. or more. Stamina and willingness to work long hours, in inclement weather and for stretches of days.
- Ability to work irregular hours including weekends.
- Valid Driver’s License. Valid Boater’s License.
- Water Treatment License (preferred or be willing to obtain within first year of employment).
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
