The West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre Joint Municipal Service Board and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka are thrilled to announce they have signed an agreement that will see the YMCA operate the new Tamarack North Centre.

Slated to open next spring, this multi-use facility will be a vibrant community hub, offering an array of health, fitness, cultural and aquatics programs and opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities. Located at 44 Joseph Street in Parry Sound, the facility will include a six-lane pool, a therapy pool, an indoor track, common rooms for cultural activities, a fitness studio, a full-sized gymnasium, a strength and conditioning area, and more.

“After decades of grassroots efforts to bring a pool and recreation centre to our area, we are proud that our seven municipalities, two First Nations, Provincial and Federal governments have collaborated to make this facility a reality,” says Dale Robinson, Chair of the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre Joint Municipal Service Board. “This agreement with the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is an extension of this cooperative approach and an example of the incredible things that can happen when we team up with a shared focus. We are confident that the Y is an ideal partner to create programming and services that reflect our community.”

“Now more than ever, individuals and families in our community need opportunities to build confidence, connection and belonging, so they can uncover their full potential and thrive to their fullest,” says Jill Tettmann, CEO, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “We believe that the Tamarack North Centre will be a space where small, transformative moments happen each and every day, and make a lasting impact in the lives of those who spend time there. It is a great honour and privilege to operate this centre, and doing so is another step forward in our commitment to supporting the health and vitality of our community for years to come.”

As part of the finalized operating agreement, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will gift the Municipal Service Board with their vacant property on Smith Crescent. Proceeds from the Board’s sale of the Smith Crescent property will then be directed by the Municipal Service Board to support the Tamarack North Centre.
