The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is honoured to announce a generous gift of $35,000 from local donor, Art Church, to support programming at the Collingwood YMCA. This significant contribution reflects Church’s lifelong connection to the YMCA and his deep commitment to fostering a strong, healthy, and inclusive community for all.
Church’s relationship with the YMCA began in his childhood. “I grew up in Woodstock and spent a lot of time at the YMCA there,” he recalls. “As a kid, I’d go swimming at night, and later on in high school I was still at the Y. Even as an adult, I took swimming lessons and eventually joined the Board of Directors.” This enduring connection followed him to Collingwood, where he continues to support the charity organization’s mission.
For Church, community giving is about contributing where help is needed most. “Collingwood has so many passionate organizations doing incredible work,” he says. “The YMCA is part of that fabric. It touches a lot of people in different ways – kids, families, newcomers, and seniors. It’s all part of being in a community and looking out for one another.”
Jill Tettmann, President and CEO of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, expressed her heartfelt gratitude: “We are deeply grateful to Art Church for his generous support of our charity. His donation will help us empower individuals and families in Collingwood, making a real and lasting difference in their lives. Art’s kindness is a powerful reminder of the impact that one person can have on their community, and we are truly honoured to partner with him as we work together to build a brighter future for all.”
Through this gift, Church is helping people of all ages experience belonging, growth, and support at the Collingwood YMCA. His donation directly supports the Silver Club, a welcoming space for older adults to connect and thrive, and the Youth Leadership program, which empowers young people to build confidence, develop life skills, and become leaders in our community.
Looking to the future as Collingwood continues to grow, Church believes the YMCA must grow with it. “I’d like to see the YMCA continue to evolve and expand to meet the needs of our growing community,” he says. “It plays such an important role in keeping people connected and supported.”
He hopes his gift inspires others to consider how they can contribute to the YMCA’s mission, whether through time, advocacy, or financial support. “The YMCA tries to look after people, no matter their circumstances,” Church shares. “That’s what makes it so important to support.”
