Statement from the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka on the Passing of Janice Laking
It is with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of Janice Laking, a remarkable community leader, philanthropist, advocate, and friend of the YMCA.
Janice dedicated her life to strengthening our community and championing opportunities for others. She was a passionate supporter of the YMCA and served as the Honorary Chair of our Barrie YMCA Capital Campaign, a role that reflected her deep commitment to building a more connected, inclusive, and caring community.
Janice truly embodied YMCA values. She believed in belonging, connection, and creating opportunities for everyone to thrive. Anyone who knew Janice witnessed those beliefs in action through her tireless advocacy, her generosity, and her unwavering support for young people. She was a powerful voice for youth and a champion for positive change in Barrie and beyond.
Her energy, compassion, and lifelong dedication to the community have left an indelible mark on our campaign, our organization, and the countless lives she touched. We are incredibly grateful for all that Janice contributed to the YMCA and to our region. We were fortunate to call her part of the Y family.
For now, we simply extend our deepest condolences to Janice’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were enriched by her leadership and friendship.
Janice Laking’s legacy will live on in the community she helped shape, inspire, and strengthen.
