Tatham Engineering Pledges $100,000 to New YMCA in Barrie to Foster Community Health and Wellness

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is pleased to announce that Tatham Engineering Limited has made a $100,000 multi-year donation commitment towards the new YMCA in Barrie. In recognition and deep appreciation of this gift, the YMCA is proud to name the new facility’s Health Services Lounge the ‘Tatham Health Lounge.’

This meaningful financial gift represents a long-standing and supportive partnership between the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and Tatham Engineering. For several years, Tatham Engineering has worked closely alongside the YMCA team, lending their invaluable expertise from the initial site selection process through planning approvals and construction. Their enduring support continues to shape the very foundation of the new YMCA in Barrie, ensuring a welcoming and accessible space for all members of the community.

“We believe spaces like the YMCA play a vital role in building healthier, more connected communities,” said Nick Millington, Barrie Office Manager and Vice President of Land Development at Tatham Engineering. “Supporting this project goes beyond design and construction—it’s about investing in people, creating a place where individuals and families, including our own staff, can access the programs, care, and connections they need to thrive. We’re proud to be part of something that will make a lasting difference in Barrie.”

The newly named Tatham Health Lounge will serve as a dedicated, inclusive wellness space central to patient rehabilitation programs. Carefully designed to support the mind, body, and spirit of both community members and dedicated staff, the lounge embodies the YMCA’s mission to foster holistic personal growth. This commitment guarantees that the space will create a lasting, positive impact for many decades, empowering individuals on their healing journeys.

“We are incredibly grateful to Tatham Engineering Limited for their leadership and ongoing commitment to the new YMCA in Barrie,” shared Jill Tettmann, President & CEO of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “After many years of working together on this project, we are honoured by their decision to invest financially in its success. The new Y in Barrie would not be possible without their expertise, partnership, and generosity.”

This generous contribution reflects a sincere dedication to nurturing the health and well-being of the local community, ensuring everyone has access to the support they need to thrive.

The new YMCA in Barrie, under construction at 535 Bayview Drive, will be a 77,000-square-foot Centre of Community designed to serve more than 10,000 people across Barrie and Simcoe County. Opening in 2027, the $70 million project will feature:

  • A full aquatics centre and swimming programs for all ages
  • A gymnasium and indoor track for fitness, recreation, and community gatherings
  • Youth transitional housing with 12 units, offering safe and supportive accommodations
  • Health partnerships with RVH to deliver cancer and cardiac rehabilitation programs
  • Accessible, intergenerational spaces where families, seniors, newcomers, and youth can connect
